Hour of Code 2018

Hour of Code 2018

On December 7, 2018, Ranger Good Works and Ranger Technical Resources, along with 51 volunteers, participated in the International Hour of Code at Dillard Elementary School.

We love it when a technology plan comes together! Our local community joined together, lending many helping hands!  Every classroom filled with 24 students was paired with a volunteer who worked with the classroom’s teacher and guided students through the Hour of Code. Our goal was to spark interest in students from Pre-K through 5th grade to learn about computer coding.  Knowing the computing field has the largest amount of job openings out of all occupations, we are aiming to encourage our students to be part of the next generation of Technology Professionals. Over 7 million tech job openings exist today.  Can you imagine how many jobs will exist in 2023?

We are happy to report that over 850 students successfully completed one of the following coding activities: Code Binary Bracelets Activity, Code Crazy Creatures, Sparks Academy, Make a Flappy Game, Code Combat: Escape the Dungeon, Star Wars: Building a Galaxy with code and code.org dance party.

Computer Science Education Week – Hour of Code designed by Code.org and several nonprofits has impacted the world by engaging with over 100 million people in over 180 countries to learn the 21st century foundation skills in technology.

We are pleased that Ranger Good Works, in conjunction with its partners,  participated in Hour of Code for the 6th year in a row, with our local community touching the children of Dillard Elementary.

Thank you to Principal Atkins Brown, her faculty, and all of the volunteers who participated! #Teamwork! #HourofCode #BrowardCodes #rangergoodworks

This experience will continue to fill the students’ treasure chest full of great life experiences. In 2013 we first partnered with Code.org for the Official Hour of Code, a Global Computer Science Education Week initiative to encourage youth to learn basic coding.

“The Hour of Code is a global movement introducing tens of millions of
students worldwide to computer science, inspiring kids to learn more,
breaking stereotypes, and leaving them feeling empowered.

What is the Hour of Code?
A one-hour introduction to computer science.
The Hour of Code began as a one-hour
coding challenge to give students a fun first
introduction to computer science and has
become a global learning event, celebration,
and awareness event.

An annual global event. The Hour of Code
takes place every year during Computer
Science Education Week, the first week in
December. With a huge groundswell of support
and attention, it’s an ideal time for schools
and districts to put the spotlight on computer
science programs and expand opportunities.” Code.org

Today, over 100 million students around the world have participated in this initiative. As a technology solutions company Ranger Technical Resources continues to contribute by sending mentors to local schools.
We are happy to say that since 2014 we expanded to include the entire elementary school. Over eight hundred students from Dillard Elementary participated in a Computer Science related activity. As you can see the number of students we are encouraging has increased due to our community’s involvement.

In 2017 we will have close to 1000 students enrolled at Dillard Elementary School. We need all of the helping hands we can to keep up the great momentum.  Please join our volunteer team for the Hour of Code on Friday, December 8th. Click here to sign up.  Thank you for your continued support!  Volunteer today!

Ranger Good Works

Hour of Code presented by Ranger Technical Resources & Ranger Good Works was a great success!

Hour of Code – December 2015

Ranger Good Works had a fan-tas-tech team show up to support us for the Computer Science Education Week and CODE.ORG Hour of Code initiative held at Dillard Elementary School. 36 Volunteers walked out of the session proudly wearing a ‪#‎BrowardCodes‬ – “I coded, did you?” sticker.

Without a doubt, every helping hand left their assigned classrooms with a smile on their face, knowing they made a big impact on our community’s children.  Learning to code and be more informed about Computer Science is critical to our youth. In today’s world, everything runs on software. The next generation will be faced with a world focused even more on the digital world than today. What we taught at Dillard Elementary was not only coding. Some lessons included computational thinking (i.e., mathematics, logic and algorithms). The instructors focused the children on problem solving in small thought out pieces to eventually solve bigger problems.  The interaction with the volunteers during this initiative gave the students encouragement that they could do anything if they put their minds to it. Coding and computational thinking are used in many different careers today.  We are proud to have been able to provide this opportunity to our chosen elementary school in the sixth largest school district in the United States *Broward County Public Schools – Ft. Lauderdale, Florida).

Thanks to a great team: Ranger Technical Resources, DHL, Broward College, Spelling City, Nova Southeastern University, Broward County Clerk of Courts, Sitters in a Second, Giant Titan, Merrill Lynch, C&I Studios and several other amazing companies.

Ranger Super Coders Visited Nova Southeastern University

Dillard Students Visited Nova Southeastern University

Dillard Students Visited Nova Southeastern University

We are excited about our partnership with Nova Southeastern University and support from our community sponsors! We took 40 Ranger Super Coders on a field trip to tour the Graduate School of Computer and Information Science Department. The visit, for many of the students, was their first step onto a college campus. Our Tech Super Hero, Dean Ackerman gave the students a tour of his amazing computer collection, gave a supercharged Tech Talk, and instructed the students on how to build a solar powered robot. Afterword, we stopped off at the University Pit to be charged up with a slice of pizza. Students also toured the Alvin Sherman Library to discover what resources are available to them before heading back to school.

Visit our Event Gallery for photos of this and other events.

Ranger Super Coders Club

Ilan with Super Coder

We started a technology club called the Ranger Super Coders. The club was designed for students of all ages to provide a great first experience in computer science and coding. Our volunteers donate their time and talent monthly for one hour. Our goal is to inspire the youth to build self-confidence, be innovative, and dream about their future. Please be sure to check out the Super Coder’s progress by visiting www.rangercoders.com. Thanks to Ranger Technical Resources, the Volunteers and Ranger Good Works for providing the 3T’s!

Click Here to see a cool video of our club.

You can make a BIG difference and educate others by spreading the word about the importance of coding in computer science and by also sharing our video on any of your social media sites. Don’t forget to tag #rangertechnical and #rangergoodworks!
